Station Tour Reaction
MC3- Introduction to Broadcasting
TTh 7:00-8:30 PM
I was challenged about how my blockmates percepts of our station tour will be as our adviser also challenges us about the Finals requirement. It was a great opportunity and education to pursue especially in our MC 3 course as we've put into an action our discussion of the different topics and powerpoint presentations in our Introduction to Broadcasting. Education is not only based on how students memorize their lessons but the application itself, the actual experience in the field is the real and proper way to educated a students and that's our MC3 with our veteran media practitioner adviser Jun Tariman and a reason why I volunteered to make the tour possible.

"Madayon pa ba ang tour? Wala na'y oras uip". Negative perceptions lead to a positive and challenging actions. After I had accomplished the papers and settle things, they were surprised and shocked yet excited- as I've seen it in their eyes with their beautiful smiles arriving in the ABS-CBN CEBU Broadcast Complex in Jagobiao, Mandue City. Exactly, 2 o'clock in the afternoon when we started our station tour. But before we had the tour, Sir Tariman orients us about the brief history of ABS-CBN. I knew that it was previosly the R.C.P.I. compound and bought by the station worth 70 Million Pesos.

orientation before the tour
Our first stop was in the desk set up of Teledyaryo and then, we were live in the broadcast of Ferdinand MaƱos in DYAB -abante bisaya. I got a clear look on what is really happening in actual broadcast/ program in a radio station.

Then, we went to the technicians room and as Mr. Valeriano Villariza Jr. an uncle of one of my blockmate welcomed us and taught us in dealing a life and work of being a technician.

It was then changed in the atmosphere of love as we visited the Lupig Sila- DYLS with Dj Ace. He told us that in advising a caller, you must have this "kick, kiss, kick" attitude. He also conducted on how to log a commercial and stressing that in being a Dj: "It was a mental awareness and no holidays".

I was then amazed in the News Department of ABS-CBN seeing familiar faces as most of them were a Josenian graduate like kuya Joworski Alipon, Charlie Maratas and ate Agnes Alpuerto. I also saw on how or what is the real setting of Maayong Buntag Kapamilya. I also knew that you must monitor your competator to build your guidelines and techniques. And was astonished seeing on how they edit their articles and in using the Electronic News Room software.
We also visited the editing base and interviewed a graphic designer. They taught us on how to put a crawler in a television set-up. And when we got in the Technical Operation Center or "TOC" i was then amazed. I asked a question regarding the different t.v. that the operator monitored. I was then realized that the first t.v. represents the manila coverage via satellite program and then brought in audio video switcher then aired which is what we've seen in our household in Cebu. The Switcher Operator taught us that the commercial must not be followed by the commercial of its same brand like vaseline and head and shoulders (both shampoos) as one questioned his monitoring about the alloted commercial time for the product.
Then, we had our glimpse in master control room and got in the TV barn as we waited and watched the actual broadcast of TV Patrol Central Visayas- seeing the different studion cameras, TV prompter and lightings.

It was big and nice that I stepped the ground of its barn. I learned that the key light is the main light, the flood light minimizes shadows and the back light defined the outline. I also knew the different terms in handling a broadcast like dolly in and out. I also learned on what is the real/ actual set-up of a station, its device and its uses and on how to act in the actual broadcast- off and on the camera in TV patrol was amazing and serves a great oppurtunity for me that is worth remembering for. After seeing all of those, I am nowexcited- on having in the actual field, enjoyed- on facing the devices and learned- on how to be a good mediamen.

And above all else, I learned on how to be a Leader- on how to manage my time, to face the challenges and also to mold myself. We are about to tour in 3 different stations, in a day with school buses, that's the plan yet it did'nt happened because of the time. But I dont feel unworthy yet proud that it was successful, a tour serves as a tribute to our dear Sir Jun Tariman. As the tour organizer, I'am also proud that many put their smiles every now and then. And proud as an instrument to accomplished our goal as our requirement for this course and as I defined it our tour is successful, full of fun and smiles as I learned in our tribute- to be a good media practitioner, a leader and a rela me because serving is my passion.
Great Learning tribute for us! -worth remembering
